万献初，男，1956年生，湖北咸宁人，文学博士，武汉大学文学院教授，博士生导师。武汉大学汉语言文学典籍整理与研究中心办主任。
本科毕业于华中师范大学中文系；硕士就读于北京师范大学中文系，师从王宁先生学习文字训诂；博士就读于武汉大学中文系，师从宗福邦先生学习音韵训诂；曾就读于中国音韵学会二期音韵学研究班、东北师范大学一期古汉语进修班。
多年从事古汉语、音韵学、训诂学、古文献学的教学工作，曾获校级优秀教学成果一等奖。音韵学课为文学院呈报武汉大学的“精品课程”。曾获湖北省优秀博士论文奖、武汉大学优秀博士论文奖。专著《经典释文音切类目研究》入选商务印书馆语言学出版基金“中国语言学文库”，为四本中青年学者著作之一。现承担国家重大古籍整理项目《古音汇纂》唐以前传世文献中音切的编撰工作、负责《中华大典·音韵分典》“近代音总部”的编撰工作。
科研成果：已出版专著《〈经典释文〉音切类目研究》（商务印书馆2004）、《汉语构词论》（湖北人民出版社2004）、《词语趣谈百题》（武工大出版社
1989）等多种。已在《方言》、《中国语文》、《中国典籍与文化》、《语言研究》等杂志上发表专业论文40多篇，人大复印资料全文复印4篇。
科研方向：主要从事文字、音韵、训诂研究，尤以音韵、音义研究为主攻方向，辅之以传统语言文字学文献的整理和研究，在利用电脑建立数据库来处理和研究传世文献的材料方面，有独到的体会和经验，拓宽新路，有很多事情可做。博士生招生方向：1）音韵训诂；2）汉语音义文献整理与研究。
Wan Xianchu, male, born in Xianning,
Hubei province in 1956. Doctor of Arts, a professor in
literature college in Wuhan University, doctorial tutor and head
of Language and Literature Classics Collation and Research
Center in Wuhan University.
He finished his undergraduate study in Huazhong Normal
University, then went to Chinese Department in Beijing Normal
University to study Phonology and scholium tutored by Mr Wang
Ning. His doctorial study was completed in the Chinese
Department in Wuhan University tutored by Mr. Zong Fubang in his
research in phonology and scholium, He has also studied in the
second study class in Chinese Phonology Associate and the first
advanced study class on ancient Chinese in Northeast Normal
University.
He has been engaged in teaching ancient Chinese, phonology,
scholium and ancient document studies for many years, and has
been rewarded Excellent Teaching Achievement First Prize. His
class, Phonology, has been submitted to Wuhan University by
Chinese college as “Excellent class”. He has also won Excellent
Doctorial Thesis prize in Hubei province and Excellent Doctorial
Thesis prize in Wuhan University. His works “The Research on
Division and Arrangement of the Annotation of classics” has been
selected into the Chinese Linguistic Library, funded by
Linguistic publishing in commercial. Press as one of the four
works by young and mid-aged scholars. Now in charge of editing
the phonetic trans criptions of pre-Tang dynasty remaining
document, which belongs to national great ancient works
collation programmed. And also editing modern phonetics section.
Research finding: The Research on Division and Arrangement of
the Annotation of classics ,published by commercial publishing
house. 2004. The Theory of Making up words and Expressions,
published by Hubei people’s press. 2004. etc. more than 40
academic essays are published in Dialect. Chinese Language.
Language Study. etc. four of which was quoted in full by
People’s University.
Research orientation: major in Chinese characters. Phonology
and Scholium especially taking phonology as main orientation
with an auxiliary study and collation, experienced at making use
of computer to set up database for doing research on the ancient
document materials with a wider new road.
The orientation for doctor candidates: 1)phonology and
scholium; 2)The collation and study on meanings and
pronunciation of words in ancient books.
